Salaries and Wages

We have had some questions about the salaries for FY 14 that were listed in last week's newspapers. There is not anything that we can do to change that at this point.

For one reason or another salaries did not get accrued back to FY 13 in one of the payrolls during that summer. Therefore the gross wages that were listed last year for 2012-13 school year showed only 11 months for most employees. That caused the 2013-14 school year to show and accrue gross wages for 13 months. This also will have an effect on the school district's budget from FY 14, as that extra month of salary is charged against that fiscal year.

Please feel free to contact the Superintendent's office if you should have any further questions on this or any other issue.

Gratitude and Planning

Complex and Boosters

Last evening I had the opportunity to sit in on part of the North Butler Athletic Booster club meeting, and the entire meeting of the Athletic Complex Committee.

I cannot put into words how impressed I am with the things that these two groups are doing for the students of the North Butler Community Schools. What great groups of people who have donated their time and energy into improving the opportunities that we are able to offer our students.

During the 2013-14 school year alone the Booster Club donated more than $36,000 to the athletic programs so that the students could have better equipment, facilities, and uniforms.

The Athletic Complex Committee has raised over $170,000 that will be used to install a new track. When this is combined with the funds that the board of education has allocated, it will allow the school district to make other improvements to that area of the facilities.

Thank you to those groups of people for all that you do for our students!!

Strategic Planning

As an administrator it is important for me to have some direction in the things that I do and the decisions that I make in the interests of the school system. At some point in the not so distant future I will be working with the Board to develop a strategic plan for the North Butler Community Schools.

This plan will set three different sets of goals for each area that is defined in the plan. There are short term1-2 year goals, mid-range 3-5 year goals, and long term goals for 5 years and beyond. This plan, when finalized, will then assist in driving the decisions that are made and be a constant work in progress, as from time to time different needs arise.

The strategic plan will cover most of the areas that we have to deal with when making decisions for the school district. These will include facilities, transportation, technology, curriculum, certified staff, classified staff, athletics, activities, enrollment, revenue, and any other items that may come up in the discussion.

When this plan is completed I will share it with the public through multiple sources, and I would also invite the patrons of the school district to let me know if they have any suggestions for this planning process. You are welcome to call, email, or stop in at any time, however if you are going to come in to visit you may want to ensure which office I am in that day.

Have a great day! It is Great to be a Bearcat!!!
